Join us on a beautiful 1,000-acre protected preserve in the western hills of Sonoma County, the
ancestral homeland of the Pomo and Coast Miwok people. Over four days and three nights, this
land of old-growth forests, oak woodlands, coastal meadows, and sweeping vistas will serve as
both setting and mirror—reflecting the depth, resilience, and expansiveness of our own inner
nature.

Drawing together core teachings from wilderness rites of passage and the Dharma, we will explore
four qualities of the awakened heart-mind: Loving-kindness, Compassion, Appreciative Joy, and
Equanimity. Through guided inquiry and lived experience, we will ask: How do these qualities
show up in our own lives? How do we meet our authentic struggles, joys, pain, love, and sorrow?
And how might we engage the complexity of our world by opening to it, rather than turning away?

With the wilderness as our teacher, companion, and witness, we will explore how being rooted in
the living earth supports the heart-mind in opening to its inherent, sky-like nature. Held within
the attentive care of circle, participants are invited to walk this path of awakening alongside other
kind and sincere humans.

The retreat will include tent camping and a rhythm of contemplative practices such as guided,
silent, and walking meditation. We will court stillness, silence, and the deep well of inner knowing
through Dharma talks, council sharing, solo time on the land with intention, and story sharing
with reflective mirroring from the guides.

Simple, nourishing vegetarian dinners are included and will be provided each evening. Participants
are responsible for all other meals and for bringing their own camping gear. The Preserve operates
on a model of reciprocal relationship where visitors maintain the land they enjoy. Participants will
be asked to participate in a short period of mindfully engaging in various tasks depending on
specific seasonal needs and the participants’ abilities.

All are welcome. No prior meditation or wilderness experience is necessary—only a willingness to
be present, curious, and open.

Bohemia Ecological Preserve is located on the ancestral homeland of the Pomo and the Coast
Miwok people, past, present, and future. The nearest federally recognized tribes are Federated Indians of
Graton Rancheria and the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians. We recognize them as the first people and the
first stewards of this land. We are on occupied territory and acknowledge the ongoing devastation of
colonization.

This 1,000 acre protected open space preserve stewarded by LandPaths in partnership with a private
landowner, in the western hills of Sonoma County, is a land of old-growth forests, oak woodlands, and
coastal meadows. The land is home to several endangered and at-risk species of flora and fauna, including
northern spotted owls, red tree voles, and Pennell’s bird’s beak.
