At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.

Henry David Thoreau

Based in the Bay Area of Northern California, we are a collective of wilderness guides who are passionate about restoring relationship with the natural world by bringing people out into direct connection with the wild earth and the profound guidance it has to offer. Through the use of earth-based practices and the deep sharing and witnessing of our stories, our programs support the cultivation of sustainable relationships within ourselves, with our people, and with all of life.

Our story began with a chance encounter during the summer of 2000, when Sara Harris and Susan Kistin met on a vision fast ceremony, both marking and celebrating the powerful transition of their fiftieth birthdays. A spark was ignited then to pursue this transformative nature-based work together, and EarthWays was born. Now after 20 years of growing and offering programs to our community, EarthWays has evolved into the seasoned and inspired collective it is today. We are a collection of guides trained in the lineage of the School of Lost Borders, and we each draw upon other wisdom lineages as well. Since our beginnings, we have run our organization collaboratively with a foundation deeply guided by the principles and practices of equality and shared leadership.

We offer a creative, pan-cultural array of earth-based programs, geared toward our modern life-style while drawing from ancient roots. Our work is not bound to any specific religious or traditional path, yet honors all paths and traditions. We welcome adults of all ages, genders, faiths, racial and cultural backgrounds into our program offerings.
