Listening to the Land as We Read and Walk Together

  • Beginning January 20, 2022
  • In House Circle
  • Thursday, 5:00pm – 7:30pm
  • Every other month
  • Day Walk, 1x every other month
  • Fee: See description below

We will gather once every other month to discuss books by environmental writers we love who are deeply connected to the earth. These passionate writers, as well as time on the land, have a way of opening the edges of our aliveness. Then, in the months in between, we will meet for a day-long out on the land. In this way, we drink in inspiration from others, as well as take the time to listen to the land speak directly to us.

We want to support cultivating our courageous hearts on behalf of all life. In the process, we will have fun, be challenged, confused, disagree, feel everything, and take time to be quiet. Practices inspired by the book we have been reading will be encouraged.

How will these authors, in concert with voices of the earth, inspire us to live more passionately and authentically in service to life?

Here are the books. It doesn’t matter if you have read them, as they can be read again and again. We will suggest certain chapters to be read in case you do not have time to read the whole book in any given month. Only get Radical Joy for starters, as we will begin with that book.

Radical Joy for Hard Times by Trebbe Johnson
Red: Passion and Patience in the Desert by Terry Tempest Williams
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer
To Speak for the Trees by Diana Beresford-Kroeger
The Universe is a Green Dragon by Brian Swimme
When Women Were Birds by Terry Tempest Williams
