Program Description

Join us on the earth, to sit and find peace amidst the ten thousand joys and sorrows of our lives. Our world is full of chaos, unpredictability, despair, beauty, and love. Join us in the gentle shelter of the Veteran’s Memorial Grove, where warriors are honored. Where we can sit and be present with even our most ordinary battles – within and without. Where we can cultivate stillness and compassion. Where we can pray for peace.

Each session will include two seated meditations, some mindful walking on the land, a short Dharma teaching, and group discussion.

Registration is not necessary, but feel free to let me know if you are coming. Please arrive with plenty of time to park, walk the 10 or so minutes from the parking lot (nearest the Peace Garden) to the Veteran’s Memorial Grove, to be able to settle in without rushing. We will begin our first sit right at 9:30am. Bring a chair or cushion for sitting meditation, a water bottle, and all the clothing layers you will need for comfort.

We acknowledge that the land upon which this program is offered is the unceded ancestral homeland of the Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo people, who have continuously lived there for thousands of years. Their endurance and wisdom inspire us to continue our efforts to create an inclusive, life-sustaining society that is in balance with Mother Earth.

When despair for the world grows in me

and I wake in the night at the least sound

in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,

I go and lie down where the wood drake

rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.

I come into the peace of wild things

who do not tax their lives with forethought

of grief. I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars

waiting with their light. For a time

I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

~Wendell Berry

No experience necessary. Just a willingness to be present with what arises inside.
